If there’s one important thing I can convey to you fledgling artists out there, it’s that drawing from life is invaluable, just sit and sketch your friends for a few hours. If you can’t get them to sit still, sketch people on the subway, sketch your pets, sketch anything you can. You will be amazed at your own progress if you do this consistently. Breaking down planes and values with a live model is a completely different process than working from a photo. This advice even applies to cartoons, remember that realism will inform ALL your drawings.
Tonight I sketched my boyfriend while we watched Being Elmo on Netflix. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, go watch it right now. It’s inspiring, heartwarming, adorable.. So many adjectives. Maybe it will inspire you to follow your dream. :)
Have I mentioned lately that I miss Riley? Right now she’s in CT with my mom while I settle into my apartment in TX. She’s finally coming down next week, I’m so excited!
the boy
Have I mentioned that I love The Simpsons?
I found a little time to update the Ask Derpy blog on the side. :) Don’t forget to check it out.
100% sharpie! Fun times.
Now that I’m working somewhere that strays from my illustration path, I find myself more motivated to keep my drawing skills fresh. It’s been an inner battle between artist Carly and career Carly, but it’s an interesting balance. My end goal will always be something in the art world, but I’m trying to mix in as much technology and expand on my skill set as much as possible in the meantime.
Last night I got to partake in some of Austin’s best cuisine at Uchiko. Along with eating some of the best food of my life, I got to meet the very friendly Paul Qui! Amidst all the excitement and full stomaches, I skipped out on my nightly Spice and Wolf. It’s one of the first animes in a while that I’ve really liked, since it doesn’t concentrate so much on repressed Japanese melodrama.
I’ve found myself picking up World of Warcraft again lately since the implementation of transmog. It’s really fun to figure out cool outfits and re-explore old content in the name of fashion!
This is too awesome to not reblog. Let’s all get creative!!

More sketches? Why yes. :P
Practice doodles :)
I’ve been doodling all day while tackling a crazy hard drive problem. Damn technology! I love it but it fights me so…
